A Letter from the President

Greetings Colleagues and Friends,

If your September has opened anything like mine, you are wondering why you even have a desk! It would be easier to reach the top of the piles if they just started on the floor!  Welcome to fall and the beginnings of the programming and administration that comes with the season.

The good thing, as I contemplate my particular set of piles, is that I take some twisted comfort that we—none of us—are in this alone.  First and foremost, our Lord Jesus is with us as we hack through the administration of His church and work for His kingdom.   Without that as our beginning, we are all in a different pile of trouble!

Second is that we as administrators share in the burdens of administrating our Lord’s church together.  While the names and faces will be different in our own locations, the ongoing administrative headaches and duties are very much similar, and we can both share our burdens and our solutions to get through the mire of the day……which brings me to some tools for the day:

  • Our first chapter meeting for the program year is Thursday, September 18.  We begin at 12:00 noon with lunch, followed by the program.  Our first meeting will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1220 Bethel Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220.  At that time our annual dues are due: $40 per person/organization, $50 buys meals for the year for each person, or $10 per meal per person if paid monthly.  If you are a first time member, you will receive a discounted rate.
  • Our monthly meetings are a good source of information and networking.  Please plan to attend the third Thursday of each month (locations on our website).
  • Consider signing up for Advice Avenue, our local listserve to share ideas and solutions for streamlining our efforts.
  • Our third Small Church Issues in Church Administration was held August 27 and was a success.  Our next session will be in October.  Consider attending and inviting those smaller churches in your area to attend for their growth.
  • The national website www.nacba.net continues to be a rich resource of information and connections.  Our chapter website www.nacba.net/columbus is also helpful.

Hang in there, faithful servant!  Get out the shovels and dig through the piles and know that the Spirit is at work in your efforts.  God be with you, and I’ll see you on the 18th!
